School

The Ela Murray International School is a non-profit, private, co-educational day school. We are a member school of the International Education Agency of Papua New Guinea (www.iea.ac.pg). The governance of the school rests with a Board composed of parents and professional staff.

This school has its origins in the European School established in 1911 and the Murray Barracks Primary 'A' School established in 1966. In 2000, these two leading international schools were amalgamated to become The Ela Murray International School. Now as one school, we continue the tradition of providing quality international standard education for the expatriate and local community in Port Moresby.

The school implements the International Education Agency (IEA) curriculum which is typical of that found in most western countries and reflects an outcomes based approach. The curriculum is available on the IEA Web Site. Around 25% of pupils are from Papua New Guinea, and the rest are expatriates from all over the world.

All classrooms are equipped with Interactive White Boards and computers. Classrooms are networked with internet access. All classrooms are air-conditioned.

Athletics and swimming carnivals are held each year. Children participate in inter-school sport. A strong after-school soccer and netball competition exists. After school activities are provided for students and include many educational, social and recreational activities.

Full-time specialist teachers are employed for Music, Physical Education, Library, L.O.T.E. (French) and Learning Support. Experienced teaching staff are available to organise special education and gifted and talented education programs. The Board’s policy is to limit class sizes to twenty-five.

Enrolment at the Murray site is around 320 pupils in primary and middle school grades from Grade Prep to Grade Seven. Site facilities include an oval, assembly area, well-equipped library, science and technology block, tennis, basketball and netball courts, and a 25 metre swimming pool.

At the Ela site, our modern, purpose-built Early Learning Arena offers an outstanding standard of early childhood education and child care. We have enrolled around 75 pupils for Early Learning and Pre-school programs.
